After spending 11 hours playing, and much more game left to explore, here is a top notch review for a top notch game: Major vaporwave and retrowave aesthetic: The art is beautiful. The soundtrack is beautiful. The game is a beautiful peice of art. 90's ♥♥♥♥ing nostalgia: That dial-up tone ingame is bittersweet. I love it, it's annoying and I also hate it a bit. The pixely characters, the graphics, my retrowave kink is very satisfied. Jazzpunk's lost cousin has joined the chat: My first vibe after that initial level was reminding me strongly of when I played Jazzpunk. I adore Jazzpunk and I adore Broken Reality. Gameplay is on point: I love puzzle games where there is little to no hand holding. This game wants you to find your way and it want you to figure it out yourself. There were points where I was getting a bit frusterated, aimlessly wandering around trying to figure out how to progress, but when I finally got it, the satification gave me tingles. There's so much you can find and see, so much you miss and when you come back to it you get almost an "AH WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥" moment. Mechanics are broken and so is my reality: The game is quirky. It's enjoyable quirky. The item mechanics are fun and enjoyable, even though I constantly want to jump and I get a tiny bit salty that I cannot, it puts new ways on the table to naviage around to complete the missions. This game is an expierience, a trippy expierience where you possibly are on LCD but it's enjoyable and it's quirky. I am feeling nostalgic for the 90s and it's great. The game is so beautiful to look at. I cannot wait to get through to the end of the game, I adore this journey and I highly strongly reccommend this game.. uhm. this is way better than I thought it would be. Get it 10/10 vaporwave simulator. I use to love listen vaporwave on youtube, I love memes images, AND i love facebook. This game got it all is like a facebook simulator in a world of internet. I love the charm detail by adding some easter eggs in the game. This game also reminds me of LSD Dream Simulator on PS1 except that this game does it right by adding objectives and quest.I highly recommend to people who really wants something to kick back and relax, and play this game. Its worth it! Its relaxing (or all out creeped out by the muscle guy dancing on epic sax guy music meme)My only comment is that:1. hope the developer fix the elevator way out from seeing the first Admin in the 1st world. Because I have to restart the game 3 times and use the teleporter item to mark my way out earlier before seeing him then use my item to exit out. Other than that the game is a smooth sailing2. PLEASE ADD THE OST MUSIC OF YOUR GAME ITS SO GOOD I LOVE VAPORWAVE MUSICS I WOULD BUY YOUR SOUNDTRACK!!!!. A romp through the cyberspace of yesterday. The atmosphere is the main draw here - glitchy, trippy graphics inspired by nostalgia for dated internet culture. The vaporwave soundtrack compliments this well. You progress through the game by solving puzzles, collecting objects, and getting a bit of insight into a mysterious past to this world. The puzzles aren't too difficult, but not ridiculously easy, so I found it pretty relaxing to play. I feel like this game has room to grow. I hope the creators do more with this world.. Walking around, talking to people, doing some very light platforming and puzzles.Wouldn't be much of a game if not for amazing vaporwave-memey atmosphere, jokes, aesthetics and great soundtrack.. It's vapourwave, it's beautiful, and from my clearly extensive time in the game, its got a really good atmosphere and world.And it's pretty cheap too so that's neat.. This game is a true masterpiece.If you are into vaporwave music/aesthetics an have a decent knowledge in memes, especially surreal memes you will really enjoy this game. It is slow paced and is meant to relax and enjoy the content of the game. Unlike other vaporwave themed games on Steam, this one isn't a trash 1$ game made in one hour, there is a lot of work behind it in order to create a special atmosphere that feels like home.. Broken Reality is obscured behind so many layers of irony that I'm not sure it's possible to extract any meaning from it, but it's still a pleasant and worthwhile experience.The game is a combat-free collectathon with a vaporwave aesthetic where you explore a digital representation of the early internet called Natem, with the goal of becoming as popular as possible by gathering likes. You can find likes scattered around to pick up, or earn them for doing other basic tasks, like taking photos, slashing apart malware with a cyberkatana, or clicking Like on advertisements. In the beginning area, the game plays out like a Metroidvania, where you explore to find new tools to help you navigate Natem. Once they're yours, the game transitions into a more linear affair, where you explore and solve simple puzzles and quests to progress.Throughout, I was reminded most of Banjo Kazooie. Like that game, Broken Reality presents you with environments that are small enough to learn, but dense enough to be consistently fun to explore. There's always something around the next corner, be it the next step in your quest, a cache of likes, or a memey digital advertisement. (This is a good time to point out, some of the advertisements contain pretty problematic content, and with the game so steeped in irony, I'm not sure what to take away from their inclusion.)The aesthetic is the real show-stealer here though. The game looks like it's trying as hard as it can to draw from vaporwave album covers, and it's usually great to look at as a result. It's got a deliberately glitchy appearance, which extends into the gameplay with things like secrets that require you to go into obviously out of bounds areas or hug tiny pieces of geometry. It's great.The one big negative for me was that, outside of the intentional bugs, there are quite a few unintentional ones here. I ran into game-breaking issues several times that required a restart, and I'm pretty sure the final area opened up for me earlier than intended (though I'm not certain, again, I have no idea what's intended and what isn't in this game). If you're willing to put up with a few minor headaches and like the aesthetic, then I highly recommend Broken Reality.
